David Hofmann

Updated: Mar 9, 2018

Through Instagram I was introduced to who is now my favourite photographer, David Hofmann also known as @sharkcookie on social media platforms. David was born was born in England, grew up mostly in Germany and moved to Los Angeles in 2003. When he was 10 years old he bought his first camera and made his passion his career in the commercial advertising and movie industry. He worked as an artist on 13 #1 box office movies for Dreamworks Animation, Warner Brothers and many others. As a photographer he continued to produce work for the world's largest stock photo agency. His work got published worldwide in magazines, billboards and online media. After 25 years in the movie industry, he focused entirely on his photography and building the Sharkcookie brand. His work and brand has become known world wide in the dance world and beyond. Throughout his life David visited and worked in 15 different countries and has learned to appreciate a wide variety of cultures he has been exposed to. His work immediately stuck out to me as it was primarily photographs of dancers, but not in ways you think. He likes to use black backgrounds and focus all the energy on the dancer and what he or she is doing. My favourite technique he used was incorporating water while the dancer did a trick and getting an action shot of both the dancer and the water being splashed by the dancers movement. Unlike other dance photographers his work is very modern but still unique and unexpected.
